Poacher's kill substantial fish on Mossley Dam.

There has been calls for tighter security around the Council's headquarters after dozens of trout were stolen from Mossley Mill Dam over the weekend. During Monday night's committee meeting, alderman Paul Girvan revealed that poachers had cut through fencing near Lakeview Avenue and used nets to remove substantial numbers of fish from Mossley Mill Dam. He said that four individuals were spotted making off in a silver coloured Citroen vehicle and called for tough action against poachers.
Environmental Award TWO Mossley teenagers have won a prestigious environmental award for their efforts at cleaning up a section of the Threemilewater river.
Surveys will be carried out from now until October 2010. 600 Brown Trout are to be stocked back into the dam over the next few months.

Newtownabbey and Antrim Councils are planning to stage a major fishing festival in the two boroughs next year. It was revealed this week that an application has been made to GROW South Antrim for funding for a South Antrim Fishing festival in May 2011. Council officers have proposed that as well as a number of fishing competitions at the borough's fisheries and rivers, a flagship event should be held at Mossley Mill on May 28th, including demonstrations, a competition and exhibition. At the meeting on Monday, members of the council's Development Committee approved match funding of ?9,000
for the initiative. The same amount will come from Antrim Council, with the remainder of the ?75,000 cost being applied through the EU funded GROW programme.
