Newtownabbey and Antrim Councils are planning to stage a major fishing festival in the two
boroughs next year. It was revealed this week that an application has been made to GROW
South Antrim for funding for a South Antrim Fishing festival in May 2011. Council officers have proposed that as well as a number of fishing competitions at the
borough's fisheries and rivers, a flagship event should be held at Mossley Mill on May 28th,
including demonstrations, a competition and exhibition. At the meeting on Monday, members of the council's Development Committee approved match funding of ?9,000
for the initiative. The same amount will come from Antrim Council, with the remainder of the ?75,000 cost
being applied through the EU funded GROW programme.
